End Injustice in Burma: Oppose the Elections!

Don’t give the regime a green light for continued impunity in Burma.

Twenty-two years ago on 8 August, Burma’s army brutally massacred as many as 3,000 peaceful pro-democracy demonstrators marching against increasing poverty and oppression, and calling for an end to the military dictatorship. The serious human rights violations and economic mismanagement that led to the national uprising in 1988 have continued to worsen under the current regime.

This year’s elections will not bring an end to the serious international crimes committed against the people of Burma. Rather, the elections will enact the 2008 Constitution, allowing the regime to continue to perpetuate human rights violations without any legal recourse for those affected. Read more.

We are asking governments to support a commission of inquiry into the serious international crimes committed by the military regime, including crimes against humanity and war crimes.

You Can Help End Injustice in Burma

Take part in the photo petition:

The photo petition highlights individual human rights cases across Burma. Photos from individuals around the world will be collected in an online photo montage to deliver to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Deadline: October 15th.

It only takes a few simple steps:

1. Read through the list of abuses that have happened in Burma. Choose a particular case that resonates with you.

2. Download the placard template here.

3. Write the name of the victim, abuse, and location on the placard.

4. Take a photo of yourself holding the card. (If you wish to conceal your identity for security reasons, place the placard over your face).

5. Email the photo to info@burmpartnership.org. If you’re on Facebook, you can also upload it as your profile picture and post it on the wall of the photo petition event. You can also add your photo to your blog or website.
